Archive of Portuguese Illustration

— Contemporary Transformations and Trends

The exhibition "Portuguese Illustration Archive: Transformations and Contemporary Trends" seeks to map the art of illustration in Portugal over the last few decades. The exhibition at Casa do Design, which includes 84 works by more than 40 artists, is the first presentation of a multifaceted project that is under construction.

Held as part of RPAC, the Portuguese Network of Contemporary Art, the exhibition is part of the Archive of Portuguese Illustration, which is the result of a joint application to DGArtes by Casa do Design, Centro de Arte Oliva, Centro de Artes de Águeda and Centro de Artes | Caldas da Rainha.

This strategic partnership plays a key role in promoting Portuguese illustration, expanding and enhancing knowledge of its history. The Archive is under permanent construction and new works representing illustration in Portugal are expected to be added.

In addition to the exhibition Archive of Portuguese Illustration: Contemporary Transformations and Trends, initially presented at Casa do Design and planned for touring to various venues, the project includes a parallel programme, a publication and an online directory that fulfil a fundamental role in preserving and extending cultural memory.
