Afonso Borges graduated in communication design at the School of fine art and concluded masters degree in Industrial Design at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto.

Between 1996 and 2001 was general coordinator of design, video and sound at Porto Editora, having won numerous awards.

Since 2002 he collaborates with the University of Beira Interior where he is an invited member of the board of faculty, and responsible for project and infographics disciplines in the design course.

Borges is a researcher at the communication laboratory LabCom, developing research in the area of simplification in design and being the author of the thesis Simplification and Reduction: A Possible Return to Normality, 2008.

This lecture is integrated in an intensive 3-day workshop for the students of the [ESAD MA in Communication Design][4], coordinated by Andrew Howard.
