Post-Normal Design
— Emergent Approaches Towards Plural Worlds
A book to counter the concept of “normal” and established practices, Post-Normal Design is the result of a series of conferences held during the second edition of the Porto Design Biennale in 2021.
Post-Normal Design gathers contributions from Peripheral Perspectives, a series of conferences held during the Porto Design Biennale 2021 dedicated to the theme of Alter-Realities. A collection of reflections gathered during the Peripheral Perspectives conference, Post-Normal Design asks questions about the role of design in conflicted times and proposes a new approach to design practice.
The book challenges normalized ways of designing within the current global neoliberal economic situation by proposing the concept of "Post-Normal Design” as an exploratory attempt to confront the damage and to reframe both the discipline and the profession.
The Editorial Design developed by studio Macedo Cannatà follows the concept of “post-normal” by creating new non-linear relationships between the contents and key-words presented in the book.
