Objects after Objetcs
— Portuguese participation in the XXI International Triennale in Milan
International Triennale: 21st Century. Design After Design? started from the will to reflect on design in the second decade of a new century, highlighting the internal and external changes to critical practice that are reconfiguring the discipline itself.
Responding to the Triennale's motto, the programme for the Portuguese participation, entitled Objects After Objects, sought to encourage reflection on the practice of contemporary design, its radicalization, teaching, production, its creative, economic and political dimension. The Portuguese Pavilion, with an area of 225m2, was located in the emblematic Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology.
The Portuguese presence, which highlighted the emerging practices of architecture and design, was unique in that it was the only to involve a design school, ESAD, that it had a presence of ephemeral self-built architecture and that it presented a program with parallel events in different spaces in Milan and Portugal.
Objects After Objects, comissioned by José Bártolo and curated by Roberto Cremascoli and Maria Milano, was promoted by the Portuguese Government, through the Ministry of Culture, and organized by ESAD and esad—idea. The Portuguese program was presented at the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology, from April 2 to September 12, 2016.
