Displaying Design: History, Criticism, and Curatorial Discourses

— Design History Society, 2023 Conference

In 2023 ESAD hosted the international Design History Society annual conference. Following the motto Displaying Design: History, Criticism and Curatorial Discourses, a series of conferences, talks and film screenings took place between September 6 to 10, 2023.

Considering the importance of Design exhibitions and curatorship in the construction of Design history over the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, as well as its relative peripheral dimension (within design history studies and outside a perspective dominated by Anglo-Saxon historiography), the DHS 2023 conference unfolded under the motto: Displaying Design: History, Criticism and Curatorial Discourses.

Between September 6—10, ESAD brought together the international design history community and hosted numerous conferences, talks and film screenings. Keynote speakers included Jane Pavitt (Head of Research and Learning at Zaha Hadid Foundation), Maria Helena Souto (Researcher at UNIDCOM/IADE), and Saki Mafundikwa (Founder and Director of Zimbabwe Institute for Vigital Arts).
