O Bairro está IN(clusivo)

— National Program for Healthy Neighbourhoods

Led by ESAD/esad—idea, the project O Bairro está IN(clusivo) [The Neighborhood is (IN)clusive] promoted workshops and participative activities with the local communities of the Bairro Cruz de Pau in Matosinhos.

Supported by the National Healthy Neighborhoods Program, the project O Bairro está IN(clusivo) aimed to bring together three distinct realities: the inhabitants of Cruz de Pau, 8th-grade students from the Matosinhos Basic School, and students from ESAD’s Masters in Interior Design. The program comprised a series of activities aimed at contributing to the neighborhood through design and architecture, investing in the positive transformation of Cruz de Pau’s urban space, and counting on the active participation of the community.

The project comprised workshops and activities with the population, employing art and creativity as tools for social and urban regeneration. Adults and teenagers from Cruz de Pau were thus the main stakeholders in these activities aimed at improving the neighborhood and valuing the projects and knowledge of the population.

The application to the Programa Nacional Bairros Saudáveis (National Programme for Healthy Neighbourhoods) was submitted by esad—idea. The project was presented in partnership with MatosinhosHabit — the entity responsible for managing the Matosinhos City Council’s housing stock —, the Matosinhos Local Health Unit, the Matosinhos Basic School, the Cruz de Pau Workers' Association, and CIAP. It was ranked 1st, with 99 points out of 100, with full funding.
