Lucio Magri

Lucio Magri has lectured at ESAD since 2007. He studied Industrial Design and did his PhD in Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano. He lectured at the Faculty of Architecture of the Politecnico de Milano (1999-2006), to which he returned in 2018 as Visiting Professor. He has also lectured at the the Universidade Lusófona of Lisbon (2004-2005) and the Federal University of Bahia (2002-2003).

Since 2010 he has been researching the life as well as the artistic and architectural work of Pancho Guedes. Together with José Luís Tavares, co-authored the books Pancho Guedes (QuidNovi, 2011) and Arménio Losa e Cassiano Barbosa (QuidNovi, 2011), part of the “Colecção Arquitectos Portugueses”. In 2015, again with José Luís Tavares, he published Pancho Guedes Nunca Foi ao Japão (ESAD, 2015), a travel book based on Pancho Guedes’ photographic archive, part of a multidisciplinary project supported by the Directorate-General for the Arts that included, in addition to the publication, a travelling exhibition and a series of conferences.

In 2019, with Maria Milano, he curated the exhibition and Frontiere — Expressions of Contemporary Design for the first edition of the Porto Design Biennale. Since 2020, he organises workshops and conferences to reflect on the impact of design on society.
