João Ornelas

João Ornelas is an award-winning industrial designer specialising in automotive and motorbike design. With a degree in Drawing from ESAP (Porto) and in Transport Design from the Art Centre College of Design (Switzerland), he began his career at Renault, where he developed the Renault Pangea concept car in 1997.

In the following years, he led scooter and motorbike design projects for brands such as Piaggio and Lambretta at Novodesign (Lisbon) and was director of Grandesign, where he and his team created more than 200 products and vehicles for major international brands, including Black & Decker, Hyundai, Philips and VW.

With awards such as the ABC Mobility Design Award and the Red Dot Award, João currently chairs the Advanced Design Lab in Santo Tirso, collaborating with mobility brands and specialised vehicles. He is an ambassador for the Art Centre College of Design in Portugal.
