Tony brook

Tony Brook is a designer, publisher, collector and curator, creator of Spin studio and founder of Unit Editions in partnership with Adrian Shaughnessy.

Born in Halifax, West Yorkshire, in 1962, Tony Brook is a designer, publisher, collector and curator.

After too many years spent designing record sleeves, Tony founded his south London based studio, Spin, in 1992. A multi-disciplinary studio, Spin’s work in print, motion and digital media has featured in many blogs, books, magazines and exhibitions. The studio is best known for the creation of powerful contemporary identities for an international clientele. Tony would like it known that the name of his studio has everything to do with cricket and nothing at all to do with politics.

In 2009 Tony set up Unit Editions in partnership with Adrian Shaughnessy to publish books by designers for designers. Recent publications include monograph’s on the American great Herb Lubalin, the legend that is Ken Garland and the brilliant avant-garde Dutch typographer Jurriaan Schrofer.

An avid collector of graphic ephemera and posters, in particular the work of Wim Crouwel, Tony was invited to curate the recent exhibition Wim Crouwel - A Graphic odyssey, a major retrospective of the Dutch masters work at the Design Museum in London. Unit Editions published a Wim Crouwel App, a catalogue and a book on Total Design by Ben Bos to support the event. Tony has also curated a number of self-initiated smaller exhibitions.
