On 24 October, ESAD hosted Talk #03 - Circular Design Strategies. Organised by MODAPORTUGAL and CENIT, the meeting brought together experts from the textile and fashion industry to discuss essential topics for the sustainability of the sector and the implementation of circular design as a transformative practice.
The event began with a welcome session led by Luís Hall Figueiredo, president of CENIT. Vasco Pizarro, head of marketing and international relations at Pizarro, opened the presentations with the theme Circularity in Industry, where he highlighted the company's practices to promote a more sustainable production cycle with less waste.
The panel also included Cláudia Rocha, designer of the Wolf & Rita brand, who shared practical strategies for effective circular design, from choosing materials to developing products that encourage repair and reuse. Cristina Castro, textile engineer at Tearfil, closed the presentations with the topic of the fibres we will wear in the future, exploring technological innovations in the creation of sustainable fibres that promise to revolutionise clothing in a lasting way.
After the presentations, the event featured a round table with experts Vasco Pizarro, Cláudia Rocha, Cristina Castro and Joana Teodoro, representing ESAD, moderated by Joana Campos Silva from MODAPORTUGAL.The debate was an opportunity to explore in greater depth the challenges and opportunities of circularity in fashion, with a focus on the Portuguese reality and the practices that are emerging as benchmarks in the sector.
MODAPORTUGAL and ESAD emphasised their commitment to innovation and sustainability in design, offering students and professionals a platform for exchanging ideas and developing practices that respond to today's environmental and social challenges.The event provided a vision of the future focussed on sustainability and responsibility in design.
