Jorge Coelho, author of multiple comic book works, is coming to ESAD to share his life course and experience as an illustrator and to monitor the illustration processes created by the students.
Jorge Coelho is the illustrator and art-finalist from the series that Marvel individually dedicated to Rocket Raccoon, one of its globally known characters, thanks to the movie Guardians of the Galaxy, directed by James Gunn in 2014.
However, this is not the first work Jorge Coelho developed for Marvel, a goal that many illustrators of his generation chase. In November 2012, after many years of showing portfolios, a headhunter from Casa das Ideias, C.B. Cebulski, showed his work at the Festival de Lucca, in Italy, and considered that his line "was ready for Marvel”. After a few months of expectations, time that he used to design Polarity for BOOM! Studius, he received a proposal to participate in the project Venom, which he promptly accepted.
Jorge Coelho was born in 1977, in Lisbon. In 1980, when he was at the day care he was already fascinated with colorful material. Three years later, he left behind the idea of becoming Spider-Man and decided to be a BD illustrator. In his teenage hood, guided by his parents and his lectures, he enters the School of Arts and Crafts António Arroio, where, joining Rui Gamito and Paulo Amorim, edits the fanzine Vertigens. In 1996, he concludes a technical professional course in Communication and Graphic Arts and enters the professional world, involving himself more and more with an old passion, music, playing electric bass and traveling with the Honeydope in concerts all over the country. During this period, he works as paginator. From 2000, he never quited the pencil, the Photoshop and Macs, developing scenarios for Animanostra, illustrations and storyboards for publicity producers. In 2004, he joins three friends and forms an atelier in Alfama. Today he shares a new and improved atelier with 17 other artists, The Lisbon Studio, a highly creative space where he continues to develop multiple projects in BD and illustration for Portugal, (Elegy Iberica), Italy (Passenger Press) and United States of America (Image, Marvel).
This conference and workshop takes place regarding the module Image Laboratory, coordinated by Elias Marques, opened to everyone who is interested.
