Lecturer on the Undergraduate in Design — Interiors presents project at Forma da Vizinhança
The proposal by ATA Atelier, led by Tiago Antero, a guest lecturer on the Undergraduate in Interior Design, was presented at the Forma da Vizinhaça Architecture and Art Festival in Braga.
Located at Quinta da Capela, the “Rotação” structure has three main components: a wall, a structure, and a ceiling. The wall, made of cement blocks awaiting future use, forms a permeable and rhythmic circle, serving as a meeting space. From it rises a semicircle composed of metal beams forgotten in a warehouse, which support a porous ceiling made of leftover netting. This composition creates an open, recycled, yet profoundly new space.
The festival describes the new space as “A space that can be a shelter for the entire neighbourhood, evoking Sebastião Alba's supracasa, and also a place for sharing and rediscovering the literary references of the place.”
ATA is an architecture studio based in Porto, founded by Tiago Antero in 2021, born out of a desire to simplify and focus architectural practice on the essential. The studio works from an analytical approach, centred on the relationship between place and project, seeking context-specific responses with careful attention to form, function, and connection to the city. Alongside his professional practice, Tiago Antero is a guest lecturer at ESAD and has taken part in collaborative self-build processes in international contexts such as India and Guinea-Bissau. Among the studio’s recent projects is the General Silveira Building, which received an honourable mention in the Manuel Graça Dias Prize 2023 and was shortlisted for the Mies van der Rohe Award 2024. In 2022, ATA was a finalist for the Début Award at the Lisbon Architecture Triennale.
The festival's identity was created by two former ESAD students from the Undergraduate in Design — Communication, Carolina Feijó and João Queirós, who is currently the Art director of the design department at esad—idea.
