João Viveiros, student of the Master's in Product Design, won the Fenabel Design Contest 2021, for his furniture project ZAZEN.
FENABEL is a Portuguese company known for its production of chairs and furniture pieces. This international contest presents a challenge to creative thinkers and designers.
The ZAZEN chair takes its inspiration from an ancient Buddhist practice where the aim is to be practice of zen and calm or just sitting. The chair has a triangular joint on the side, consisting of three wooden elements that support the seat, legs and backrest, forming an overlapping shape, found in plant structures and traditional Chinese craft techniques. The ZAZEN chair can be used in hotels, restaurants or houses. The structural lines suggest calmness or balance, providing an interesting visual approach to this piece of furniture and inviting users to sit on it comfortably.
The award ceremony will take place at the new FENABEL premises on 17th June. The company's thirty years of activity will also be celebrated on this day, together with the official opening of the new showrooms and offices and the ZAZEN chair presentation.
