ESAD student Maria Melo was honoured by Women in Animation (WIA) and invited to represent the organisation at the WIA World Summit, the 8th edition of which took place as part of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on 10 June in the French city of Annecy.

Women in Animation is a prestigious international non-profit organisation that advocates gender equity in the animation, visual effects and game design industry. The portfolio of Maria Melo, a 2nd year Digital Arts and Multimedia student, was selected internationally to represent this organisation as its World Summit Artist for the year 2024, succeeding the award-winning (Emmy-winning) Mexican illustrator and animator Sandra Equihua who had been the WIA World Summit Artist for 2023.
