ESAD is deeply saddened to learn of the death of António Fernando [1940-2025], a lecturer and collaborator at the school since its foundation. We offer our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
António was born in the city of Porto on 28 May 1940. With a degree in Painting from the College of Arts of Porto, he received a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation from 1976 to 1980 and was a secondary school teacher from 1980 to 1983. He pursued a career in higher education as a monitor of the subjects of Initiation to Painting and Anatomy and Model Drawing at ESBAP from 1979 to 1981 and has been a drawing teacher at ESAD since 1989. As a painter, António's works are a powerful testimony to the restlessness of a man for whom painting conveys, above all, emotion and feeling.
ESAD leaves a note of recognition and thanks for António Fernando's collaboration.
