Matali Crasset: Designing Otherwise

— Open Lecture

Auditorium

In this open lecture, french designer Matali Crasset reflects on the evolution of her practice and the way she positions design as a tool for transformation. Moving between design, art, and architecture, she explores how these disciplines, conceived not as isolated fields but as interconnected ways of thinking and acting, can help us respond to a world in profound upheaval.

By sharing her projects and research, Matali highlights how design can create new rituals, open spaces for experimentation, and foster collective movement. Her approach questions conventions, reimagines everyday life, and seeks to generate conditions for living differently - together.

The designer is a guest at the 4th edition of the Porto Design Biennale with the New Diner project, in collaboration with CASA and ACISJF, two non-profit organisations that run the Baixa Solidarity Restaurant in Porto and provide a social service of daily meals.

Matali Crasset is an internationally renowned French designer who has defended design as an artistic, anthropological, and social practice ever since graduating from ENSCI–Les Ateliers. She is dedicated to creativity, people, and everyday life, continually exploring how design can contribute to community and help us navigate a world in transformation.
