Perspectives on Portuguese Animation
— Presentation of the publications from the 3rd and 4th editions
–
ESAD Auditorium
This session will present the scientific publications resulting from the 3rd (2023) and 4th (2024) editions of “Perspectives on Portuguese Animation". The project coordinator, Cristina Novo, will be in attendance, along with two of the authors, Inês Rebanda Coelho and Laura Castro.
The initiative by CINANIMA — Espinho International Animation Film Festival — was conceived in 2021 by Pedro Serrazina (former artistic director of the festival, professor, and animation filmmaker). The publications bring together contributions from researchers, curators, and authors on contemporary Portuguese animation, offering an in-depth critical analysis of national works and filmmakers.
The 3rd edition was curated by Cátia Peres (ESEC | ESMAD) and focuses on the feature films “Nayola,” by José Miguel Ribeiro, and “Os Demónios do Meu Avô,” by Nuno Beato. The 4th edition is dedicated to the work of Regina Pessoa (animation director) and was curated by Sahra Kunz (Catholic University).
With the support of ICA — Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts, the publications are available in a limited print edition and as an open-access digital version on the CINANIMA website.
Join the conversation and discover different perspectives on contemporary Portuguese animation.
