On 19 October, the Natural, Ecological and Landscape Heritage and Citizenship Day in Matosinhos will be held by the Campo Aberto Association with the support of CIIMAR (Interdisciplinary Centre for Marine and Environmental Research), esad—idea, research in design and art, and the VIPA 1051 collective.
Since it was founded in 2000, the Campo Aberto Association has played a key role in promoting citizenship and environmental education, organising debates and actions focused on the preservation of natural, rural and urban spaces, as part of the ‘Green and Living Spaces — A Future for the Porto Metropolitan Area’ project.
The programme starts at 9.30am with a meeting at CIIMAR, followed by a visit to the Leixões Port Cruise Terminal and a pond in Matosinhos. Here they will be able to observe the local ecosystem, identify the species present and get to know the marbled newt, with the aim of creating suitable conditions for maintaining this species in its habitat.
In the afternoon, the day will continue at 2.30pm at the headquarters of the Matosinhos and Leça da Palmeira Parish Council, where a debate will be held on the municipality's natural heritage, with the aim of stimulating active citizenship in favour of environmental preservation.
Registration is compulsory and must be made by 17th October.
