ISSCI Summer Retreat comes to Porto to explore the real impact of creativity
ESAD, through its research unit esad—idea, is partnering with the ISSCI Summer Retreat 2026, an international initiative dedicated to studying the real impact of creativity on society.
The event takes place from 13 to 17 July in Porto and brings together between 20 and 30 researchers, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers for an intensive programme of discussion, sharing and experimentation centred on a key question: how to conceptualise, study and enhance the impact of creativity in the real world.
In an immersive and collaborative format, the retreat combines interdisciplinary debates, practical workshops and the development of research projects, promoting the intersection between theory and practical application. Participants will also have the opportunity to develop research proposals and apply for the Best Research Design Award, worth €800.
Participation is free for selected candidates; they are only required to cover their own travel and accommodation expenses.
Applications are open until 15 April, with results announced on 1 May.
This initiative reinforces ESAD’s position as an active centre for research in design and creativity, promoting international dialogue and the connection between practice, research and social impact.
