Svicolando - Tribute to Vico Magistretti is an itinerant exhibition, presented for the first time in Milan in 2011, which presents the work of Vico Magistretti as a designer and his professional and personal relationship with the creators of some of the most important italian design companies, such as Artemide, De Padova, Flou, Oluce and Schiffini.

Look at usual things with unusual eyes, the phrase that synthesizes all the poetics and the human and design route of this great master of italian design. Vico Magistretti drew objects that quickly became complex universes, containers of life, memory and everyday gestures. His drawings were made to dig deep, to find the soul, the object's essence, or rather to define that other reality that always exists beyond the visible reality.

This exhibition explores the daily universe of Magistretti, visible in his office, today the Vico Magistretti Foundation. The exhibition tells us a history of projects, products and meetings, with some of the most enlightened italian producers. The background is his office, the place of his creativity, the disorder, the fragments of his everyday life, where pieces of family life intersect with ideas of projects, telephone numbers, images and figurative and intellectual suggestions. - Rosanna Pavoni, Director of Fondazione Studio Vico Magistretti Museum.    This traveling exhibition, presented for the first time in Milan in 2011, will be presented at the Casa do Design Matosinhos on March 14, at 6:00 p.m., until October 26th. The exhibition is organized by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Fondazione Studio Museo Vico Magistretti and Consulato D'Italia Porto, in collaboration with the City Council of Matosinhos, esad-idea, Research in Design and Art and the ASCIP-Dante Alighieri.

Vico Magistretti was born in 1920 in Milan, the city in which he graduated in architecture in 1945, and where his professional career has spun its story ever since, chiefly in the fields of architecture, town planning and industrial design. The first recognition of his work came in 1948, when he won the Gran Premio at the 8th Triennale di Milano. After that came almost forty years of activity with other prizes and awards in recognition of Magistretti’s work in various sectors in different countries. Giving lessons and lectures in various faculties of architecture and schools of design in Italy and abroad, from Milan to New York, from Paris to London, a city to which he is particularly devoted, he has been an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Art since 1983. Furniture, lamps and other objects that he designed may be found all over the world and the most important design museums have given exhibitions in his honour and kept examples of his work in their permanent collections. Magistretti’s research has been continuous - into design, the culture of the project and innovative experimentation with materials and space solutions, not to mention shapes and functions far from the rigours of fashion that they have passed through during the years. He started designing for Cassina in 1960, and from that date on his signature is to be found on very many products. We recall in particular the Maralunga sofa (1973) and the Nuvola Rossa (1977) bookcase, which are still indisputable international best-sellers and have provoked hordes of imitations which have not been able to echo even faintly the success of the originals.
