Part of the official program of the Year of Portuguese Design 2014/2015 – given its strategic importance for the national Design territory – the website www.designportugues.pt presents the programming of the year, either it is a Portuguese Government initiative or comes from other protagonists.

Based on the image created by the graphic designer Pedro Falcão for the Year of Portuguese Design, the website is designed and developed by ESAD – Escola Superior de Artes e Design de Matosinhos, partner of all the event and responsible for its technical conception and editorial development.

One of the most important facts is that the website continues after the end of the Year of Portuguese Design, in October 2015. That means that it is designed to be progressively constituted to become the first big online archive of national design, in its various aspects and categories. This is a site that begins assuming itself openly as a work-in-progress, which will grow not only with the presentation and record of several programmatic initiatives, but also with the collecting of information through a dynamic system of communication with the national design community.

The Year of Portuguese Design 2014/2015 has been understood since its beginning as a catalytic occasion of actions and projects that go beyond their own temporal period. In that sense the site is also a participating platform that will make possible a mapping of Portuguese design, inside and outside the national territory. All the designers, companies, institutions and other main figures of design are invited to send their data to the construction of a vast design directory thought and/or produced in English. This mapping, that is intended to be dynamic in its construction and integrator in its amplitude, is a network project of promotion of the Portuguese design and designers and of construction of an archive and a catalytic basis of knowledge. It will take time to be finished and it will need frequent updates, thanks to the great development of the discipline.
