Global culture happens faster and faster, in a digital format where the market and the brands play a determinant role in the assembly of identities. New generations are building a meaning, an identity and a lifestyle through the absorption of cultural resources – such as music and fashion -, in the way they are transmitted – through the media and social networks – and the interaction that comes from those processes – for instance the streetwear.

Being a concept of complex definition and vague understanding, the streetwear reveals itself as a social and cultural movement that more easily reflects a state of mind then a fashion style. It is a subculture tied to the skateboard scene from New York City, to the music from 1970’s and 80’s– such as hip-hop and punk rock – to the California surf and the various street art forms such as the graffiti. Since then, it is noticeable a strong growth of this movement, created within small segments out to conquer the mainstream market. Currently, the streetwear is a global phenomenon, intercepting sports brands – Nike, Adidas, Puma – with the high fashion brands – Alexander Wang, Off-White, Raf Simons.

In this exhibit are presented the projects by the 2nd year students from the Degree in Fashion Design for the streetwear project by Supreme Spring/Summer 2020.

The project's goal is to create a clothing collection suitable to the streetwear brand Supreme. The collection’s identity reflects the brand’s disposition and sets a new strategic vision concerning its product. It was further developed and constructed a prototype: a t-shirt from the collection.

This project was developed within the module Project I, part of the Degree in Fashion Design, coordinated by Joana Teodoro.
