MAR Shopping Matosinhos launched a challenge to the students of the Post-Graduation in Illustration and Digital Animation of ESAD to create illustrations and sculptures with materials collected by themselves on the beaches and public parks of Matosinhos.
The narrative principle is based on the evocative representation of issues related to the consumption and disposal of materials in nature, without intending to impose a political, social or economic vision of the world, but allowing introspective reflection from the contemplation of an illustration or sculpture dedicated to the environment.
The jury distinguished six finalist projects. First prize was awarded to Mava Yvisai Ceballos Munoz with the sculpture Aquí, Pero Ausente, which represents the negative aspects arising from human contamination. The second prize was awarded to Carolina Esteves Vieira, with the interactive sculpture Oitavo Oceano, representing a soulless sea animal, consumed by human waste, which sails, aimlessly, consuming everything that appears in front of it, growing endlessly. Clarisse Andreia Gomes da Silva won third prize with the sculpture Corais, which aims to reflect on the importance of coral life. Inês Sofia Dias Fernandes, José Benjamim Loureiro de Azevedo Teixeira and Cláudio Calatozzolo Carvalho Gomes won three honourable mentions.
The prize-giving ceremony will take place in the Mar Shopping atrium, on 2 May, at 12:00. The exhibition of the selected projects will be open from 2 to 10 May.
