Rubén Tortosa Cuesta has a doctorate in Fine Arts and is a professor in the Department of Drawing at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain. He first became involved with digital technologies in 1987, making a commitment to apply it in artistic creation, developing intense artistic and research activities. A big part of his production concerns digital recording, printing and transfer processes. The results of these investigations has been exhibited in international events and exhibitions like ArtFutura, Barcelona; Ciberart, Bilbao; Fournos Centre for the Digital Culture, Atenas; or Gran Canaria Espacio Digital, Gran Canaria.

On 22 and 23 of May, Rubén Tortosa Cuesta presents at ESAD a reflection and analysis workshop about this new way of building an image, through a non-retinian imaging/register model, representing it through an abstract digital language. This workshop is carried out in the scope of the Digital Lab II module.

On the 22nd of May, Rubén Tortosa Cuesta presents an open lecture about new ways of building an image, Imagen Digitalizada, La Mirada No-Retiniana, addressing the image digital recording systems that establish a new way of seeing, understanding and representing, many of which don´t need a shutters or diaphragms at the moment of capture: a simple light entrance, or a reflection, is converted into an electrical impulse through one or several Charge Coupled Devices (CCD). We don’t look directly at something anymore, but through images.

To conclude, Rubén Tortosa Cuesta presents an exhibition with the results of the workshop. This activity is a part of the programme of ESAD’s Communication Design Week.
