ESAD is proud to announce that André Santos (Masters student from Product Design) has won 2nd place in an international competition with SAMSONITE.

Samsonite is world famous for luggage carrying solutions; business cases, suitcases, trolleys, bags and backpacks. The new challenge was ‘one size fits all’, which attempts metamorphosing the conventional cabin bag to accommodate different airline regulations.

The competition was a creative R+D challenge hosted by Nimble Bee to and collaborates with some of the best design universities in the world.

Students and lecturers were invited by Nimble Bee to a secure platform where information was shared by Samsonite, gain feedback and receive an invaluable experience from the real business world. W

ith tough competition and high expectations, 3 ESAD students entered the challenge (Diogo Pimenta, António Pinto and André Santos), 10 (including André Santos) were short-listed as finalists and on the June 15 the 3 winners were announced. The whole experience took about 3 months to achieve and was a unique opportunity to participate in such a prestigious event.

André Santos will receive a prize and a certificate signed by Samsonite’s R&D Department as proof of participation. Unfortunately, due to confidentiality agreements, André’s final design can not be disclosed for several months during the intellectual property process, a small price to pay for such a fantastic achievement.
