The experimental project Tipobicho intends to investigate the formal use of typography and illustration in the construction of children’s educational tools which will facilitate literacy in Portuguese.
Tipobicho, on exhibition at ESAD's lobby, was developed by the student Minna Miná Rolim, as part of the Master’s in Communication Design. The project is composed by a book and a game and suggests a new approach to typography, by using spatial interaction with letters and transforming words into three-dimensional sculptures, with shapes corresponding to their meanings.
The book/game values the child as an active participant in the learning process, considering the reading process, aligned with the interaction design, typography and illustration, restoring the value of books and games as traditional physical tools of knowledge.
