José Miguel Ribeiro orients one more project of the Postgraduate course of Illustration and Digital Animation at ESAD. Along de academic year 2014/2015, the renowned and awarded animation film director is boosting a project of stop-motion with the students.

José Miguel Ribeiro is graduated in Plastic Arts and Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon and has also studied Animation at Lazennec-Bretagne, in Rennes, and at the Filmógrafo, in Porto. He has directed several short movies (among others, O Ovo, O Banquete da Rainha and the Cartoon d’Or 2000 winner A Suspeita). He has also directed the children’s series As coisas lá de Casa and the short movie Abraço ao Vento. He illustrated the book O Rapaz que Aprendeu a Voar (Alexandre Honrado), and founded with Nuno Beato and Eva Yébenes the film company Sardinha em Lata. Passeio de Domingo and the short movie Viagem a Cabo Verde were also under his direction.

Recently he has directed O Balão Lua of the series Dodu o Rapaz de Cartão and has begun de production of the stop-motion Papel de Natal. In 2012 he founded the film company Praça Filmes and directed the movie A Energia na Terra, wawarded on Cinanima and selected for the international competition at Annecy 2013.

In 2015 he completes the special production Papel de Natal, with Premiere in 10 national movie theaters. At the moment he is directing a short movie called Estilhaços and begins the project of the movie Noyola, based on the original text of Mia Couto and Agualusa.
