Jeremy Hugh Aston, professor and coordinator of the Degree and Masters in Product Design at ESAD and researcher at esad-idea, was invited to participate in the third edition of the Sustainable Living Innovators (SLI) at the Centre for Product Engineering and Development (CEiiA), by Teresa Sarmento (Senior Researcher in Service Design at CEiiA).
Sustainable Living Innovators (SLI) is a programme that aims to develop future technological leaders, through the valorisation of knowledge and innovation for the sustainability of the planet. In this programme, which ran from 18 July to 12 August 2022, biotechnological solutions were explored to accelerate carbon neutrality and improve the quality of life of people in cities, in an inclusive and attractive way, in harmony with the environment. Through SLI, an urban biological device to purify air was designed, thinking of ways to optimise its service, taking into account the value proposition for each of the different stakeholders, from the user, the customer, the community and the city itself.
The workshop led by Jeremy Aston demonstrated how design works as a process and what are the exploratory tools to develop it. The workshop concluded in collaborative sketches for further discussion and design guidance by the project leaders.
