The proliferation of digital media and the increasing inclusion of these in our daily lives, has been changing the way designers think and project graphic objects. From LED billboards to LCD posters, social media and music apps consumed on our smartphone, all of these devices offer new possibilities for communication, narration, or expression.
The current pandemic scenario of social, economic and environmental crises, stresses the current civilisational model, raising questions about what social, political, economic and cultural challenges, we have to face as individuals but also as a community. Design can and should be a fundamental subject, which thinks, structures and represents, at the same time that mediates form and its function, public or private, local or global.
Considering the challenges that the current world conjuncture imposes us, is this an opportunity to think about the future as individuals and as a society? How can graphic design contribute to this thought and what is the role of technology?
The students of the BA Degree in Communication Design, within the scope of Digital Laboratory 2 module, were challenged to speculate about the future of the world in a post-pandemic scenario, under the theme POST-PANDEMIC WORLD. The students' reflections are shown in two paradoxical ways: print and digital.
This project was carried out as part of the ERASMUS+ mobility programme, in response to the IF Social Design for Sustainable Cities initiative, launched to 28 international schools by the Polish-Japanese Academy, in Warsaw.
