The research project Porto Think Tanks, presented by esad-idea, with the support of ESAD, within the New European Bauhaus (NEB) competition, was one of the 18 projects selected by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) in the category of 'Co-creation of public spaces through the participation of citizens'.
The research proposes to study the Porto washhouses, architectural artefacts historically associated to women, involving local communities in the search for a new use for the washhouses. Porto Think Tanks is thus presented as a laboratory of thought and experimentation aimed at the requalification, enhancement and updating of this material heritage and the practices and stories associated with it: from the gathering of the neighbourhood around a common practice, to the value of water, an increasingly scarce resource.
The project extends over five months and comprises several phases of action:
- Mapping and documentation of the washrooms;
- Co-design workshop with citizens;
- Think Thanks with experts from different areas;
- Prototyping of a solution to be implemented in a washhouse;
- Public presentation of the project.
The working process, findings and results will be shared on the various communication platforms of esad- idea.
