The projects given in year one of the Master in Communication Design aim to expose students to the multiple intellectual and practical challenges of the design process and of professional practice; areas such as research methodology, authorship and content generation, forms and content dynamics, production processes, time-management, and independence. In addition, some of these projects are live projects, meaning that the outcomes are designed to be presented in locations and with audiences that lie outside of customary academic context.
The first of these projects is the Pop-up Shop event in which students have been challenged to conceive and then produce items that playfully explore visual forms, languages and conventions, and in parallel to create an alternative retail experience open to the public. This year the resulting products include items such as typographic biscuits, deadly sin carrier bags, invisible ink T-shirts, and letter lamps.
