The Inhabited Bridge project comes under the discipline of Layout and Prototyping of the Degree in Interior Design, with the aim of realizing an idea from the construction of a three-dimensional physical model.

With the intention of joining the two borders of a small river, where it flows into the sea, the student was challenged to design a bridge that is also a stopping point and contemplation. Rio Largo is located on the line separating the municipalities of Espinho and Vila Nova de Gaia and, therefore, the bridge may represent a reference element that marks this transition.

Laminated wood beams with section 30x15 cm, solid wood bars with section 8X8 cm and solid wood boards with section 16X4 cm were the materials used for the design of the bridge with 12 meters span.

Portuguese, Spanish, Italian students, a Belgian student and a Polish one developed the concepts so that they could be presented in Junta de Freguesia de Espinho. The result of the proposals results in an exhibition, from 23 to 31 May.

Junta de Freguesia de Espinho decided to award the two best projects, designed by students Cristiana Rodrigues and Helena Silva. It also decided to implement Cristiana Rodrigues' proposal, under the guidance of Professor João Gomes and with the support of a structural designer. The implementation of the winning proposal took place in October 2021. The opening of the winning proposal will take place on October 23, 2021, at 5:00 pm, in Espinho.
