At the beginning of the second half of the 70s, Jean Baudrillard stated: We are at the end of production. This formula coincides, in the West, with the enunciation of the mercantile law of value, i.e., with the realm of the political economy. Baudrillard also declared the beginning of the critique of the political economy, of which the reference is the social production and the means of production.
The object of the current issue of PLI arte & design magazine is this critique of the political economy, the form it presently assumes, the processes that develop it in the field of contemporary art and design. It gathers several national and international contributions, such as Enzo Mari, Keti Chuhrov, Andrew Howard, Alessandro Mendini or Paolo Deganello.
The launching of this 5th issue is marked at ESAD by the event PLI Convida (Invites), that brings to the school names such as José Bártolo, Inês Nepomuceno, Miguel Leal, Júlio Dolbeth, Jorge Silva, Luís Miguel Castro, Mário Moura, Emanuel Barbosa, José António Teixeira, Maria Ramalho, among others, cycle that closes with the opening of an installation by Design Factory.
PLI arte & design is a magazine by ESAD dedicated to the critic reflection on practices and discourses in the area of the culture of the contemporary project and has as editors José Bártolo and Sérgio Afonso, art direction of Inês Nepomuceno (issues 4 and 5) and João Martino (issues 1 and 2/3).
The 5th issue of PLI arte & design is available on the platform books.esad.
