Paul Antonio, internationally renowned calligrapher, considered the best in his field, is presenting a conference and running a workshop at ESAD, under the theme Turning your handwriting into Calligraphy.

Paul Antonio is an artist specialist in Writing and Heraldry, who completed his studies in archaeological illustration, with a specialisation in ancient writing systems. His illustrative works on Egyptian hieroglyphics are exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. As a renowned contemporary calligrapher, he has collaborated with several prestigious brands, including Asprey, Selfridges and Bally. In 2010, he founded PAScribe. Paul is currently also a lecturer at the V&A - The World's Leading Museum Of Art And Design and the British Museum.

The conference will be presented in ESAD’s auditorium, on 27 September, at 9:30am. It will explore the 3500 years of the Western alphabet development, starting where Egyptian Hieroglyphics and Cuneiform merge and generate the Proto Sinaitic Script. The Western Calligraphic Tradition will also be addressed, starting with the Greek Scripts, moving through the Roman, Irish, Carolingian, Gothic Scripts, but also the Renaissance, the English Roundhand, the Spencerians and contemporary letters.

The workshop, which takes place on 27 September, at 10:30 am, explores calligraphy, with the aim of understanding its structure, applying it to a formal calligraphic script.
