PANTONE WEEK is an event dedicated to color, featuring a contest, a workshop and a conference.
In today’s competitive job market and in a world saturated by choices, colour can be used as an effective way to differentiate, customize and bring out creativity. Millennials are a generation characterised by versatility, optimism, hyper-connectivity and self-expression, all of which would lack authenticity without colour. For millennial designers, colour is an even greater asset; the craving for colour is, as Fernand Léger puts it, a natural necessity just as for water or fire. Millennial designers are not afraid of creativity and experimentation. They use colours to convey feelings, moods, values, individuality and originality. In a world where colour is everywhere, its power and ability to generate optimism, comfort and togetherness cannot be overlooked. Or, as Bonnard once said, colour does not add a pleasant quality to design – it reinforces it.
Pantone is known worldwide as the standard language for accurate color communication, from designer to manufacturer to retailer to customer, across a variety of industries. Pantone has been creating a common color language for 56 years.
Organized in partnership with Tecnimprensa and within the framework of Porto Design Biennale'19 hosted programme, PANTONE WEEK presents:
— workshop on colour management (Tomás Soeiro / Tecnimprensa);
— conference by Ingrid Holacse (Pantone);
— competition for Design students and alumni.
Avelino Resende, Bernardo Alves and Inês Fonseca, students of the Degree in Communication Design, collected the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes, respectively.
As the name says, our global color system PAN-TONE, is helping designers all over the world to make the best and most educated choice of colour for product development, brand imaging, interior/exterior design or any other application where color choice is critical to the success of the product or environment.
Ingrid Holacsek is Pantone's Sales Manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa and an active member of the Pantone Color Institute Team in Carlstadt (USA), to develop projects regarding custom colours and colour consulting for brands.
Color is queen influencing our mindset, influencing us to buy, influencing our perceptions, it´s a constant in life and being so it´s imperative to have a way to communicate and share colour fast and accurately, I mean a PANTONE way of communicating colour. With Ellsworths Kelly words I add to Ingrid´s quote: "Gray goes with all Colors. It takes a long time to make gray because gray has a little bit of color in it".
Tomás Soeiro is a member of Tecnimprensa team, focusing on the graphics sector, especially on the colour variable. Among the various brands represented, he manages Pantone, which gives him a panoramic view of colour difficulties and solutions.
