Pancho guedes viagens

The project Pancho Guedes Viagens has as main goal the edition of a book about Pancho Guedes, resorting almost exclusively to unpublished photos by the architect-painter-sculptor, now also unveiled as an excellent photographer an unstoppable traveller.

The book reveals the author through the way his eyes have captured the world. In the files Pancho Guedes, slides, printed photos, photo negatives, photos of photos, photos of art works are in a colossal number, about 40.000 pieces. The work basis is a pre-selection of about 2.000 images, which has been being made by Lucio Magri and José Luís Tavares since 2011, within the process of research, maintenance and inventory of the photographic material in the files Pacho Guedes.

With the creation and production of the book it is also created an itinerant exposition and a video documentary, produced from the work sessions and interview with the artist.

The project falls within ESAD’s investigation, editorial and exhibition projects, having been selected for Apoios Pontuais 2014, a financial support programme of the Portuguese Government, through Direção-Geral das Artes.

Pancho Guedes Viagens has a set of public presentations programmed, which will travel along seven cities along the country through seven art, design and architecture schools. ESAD will host the first public presentation, on date to be defined. On the opening of the exhibition there will be conferences about trips and about the creative process of the book.

The artistic direction of the project is by Lucio Magri and José Luís Tavares, the critical texts by Eduardo Brito, Luís Bernardo Honwana and Marilyn Martin, the documentary directed by Israel Pimenta, the photographic consultancy by Inês d’Orey and the graphic design by João Faria/DROP.
