With Pancho Guedes, the trips multiply and overlap. As in the ideal space of dreams, there is no apparent logic articulation of the itinerary. Around the corner of the teeming heart of 5th Avenue in NYC, one finds Tombwa at the Namibe’s desert. One looks through the window in a house of Soweto and sees Hide Park Flats of Sheeffield. One thinks to be in Eugaria but actually is in the biggest Island of Ecletica” in Pancho Guedes Nunca Foi ao Japão.

The project Pancho Guedes Viagens has as main object the publication of this book that proposes several perspectives about Pancho Guedes, using photos, the majority unpublished, of the architect-painter-sculptor, now also revealed as a superb photographer and an unstoppable traveler. The book reveals the author through the way his eyes captured the world. There are huge quantities of slides, printed photos, negatives, photos of photos, photos of artistic works, among others, in his archives, in a number around 40.000 pieces.

With the creation and production of the book, it is also conceived an itinerant exhibition with photos by Pancho Guedes and a documentary that gives other perspectives about the author and the journeys occurred along the project. The book will be available on the ESAD's store.

The project fits within the projects of investigation, editorials and exhibition of ESAD and has been selected for the competition Apoios Pontuais 2014, counting on the financial support of the Portuguese Government through Direção-Geral das Artes.

The photos are by Pancho Guedes, artistic direction by Lucio Magri and José Luís Tavares, texts by Eduardo Brito, Marylin Martin and Mia Couto, documentary by Israel Pimenta, photographic consultancy by Inês d’Orey and graphic design by João Faria/DROP.

The official release session of the book and the presentation of the exhibition is scheduled for the 19th February 2015, with presence of the authors Lucio Magri, José Luís Tavares and Eduardo Brito.
