A co-production of the esad-idea, Research in Design and Art and the DIDAC Foundation for the space of the Museu e Igreja da Misericórdia do Porto, Olivetti, a Unidade na Diversidade presents the legacy of the industrial, graphic and typographic design of the Italian brand of typewriters Olivetti.

From March 30 till May 26 2019, this exhibition, curated by David Barro and María Ramos, brings to Porto typewriters and graphic and typographic materials of the iconic Italian brand Olivetti.

Founded in 1908 in Ivrea, Turin, by the industrialist Camillo Olivetti, the Italian brand became famous for the design of its machines, its graphic materials and the innovative advertising campaigns. Globally known, Olivetti typewriters have democratised the access to word processing and were essential to give visibility and autonomy to some of the major social movements of the twentieth century, such as feminism.

The exhibition presents striking models of the Olivetti such as the portable Valentine (1969), designed by Ettore Sottsass and Perry King, or Lettera 10 (1979), designed by Mario Bellini, as well as other objects that have become part of the technological and industrial history of design.
