O porto em cartaz

This exhibition is focused on the North of Portugal and aims to tune the local pulsation through a universal receiver; promote brands, authors and local producers; contribute to its revitalization, projecting them inside the country and abroad; cross the literary with the culinary, the visual with the tactile, the sophisticated with craft, the new with the well-known, the industrial with handmade, the serious with the fun, the scholar with the popular, the obvious with the risk.

The challenge was made to a group of authors related to Design and the north of Portugal. A wide range of authors from different generations responded promptly and with generosity: Oporto, a poster that emphasizes the word and promotes the name. A formal and semantic exercise at the dialogue between points of view, in updating memories, on the reflection on heritage and marks the place, testing new proposals.

Posters are not just public advertisement, remembers Susan Sontag. While advertisement informs and orders, the poster entices, encourages, sells, educates and persuades, competing with others posters as elements that integrates the modern public space. This is not an attempt for the poster’s survival, but the reinforcement of one of the most persistent means of communication in space and time.

This exhibition, which has posters of 46 authors, was originally presented at the space Take Away Porto.
