Nuno Coelho is a communication designer, a lecturer on the Design and Multimedia courses of the University of Coimbra, and a researcher at the CEIS20-UC. He holds a PhD on Contemporary Art from the University of Coimbra, a Masters in Design and Graphic Production from the University of Barcelona, following completion of his degree course in Communication Design and Graphic Art at the University of Oporto.
In his activity as a freelance Designer, he has worked for individuals and organizations in Portugal and abroad, mainly culture related clients. In his graphic work he widely explores concepts like appropriation, vernacular, irony and humor. He has developed his own projects in the intersection between Design and Art, raising questions, in its vast majority, about social and politic issues. He has also been working on topics related with identity and memory by exploring the visual imagery of old Portuguese trademarks. He has exhibited his work in Australia, Austria, Brazil, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain. He gave talks in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Germany, Greece, Mexico and Portugal. Hi
Following the lecture The Design Archeology, Nuno Coelho will be running a workshop for students of the MA in Communication Design, coordinated by Andrew Howard, about Projecting a Portuguese Collective Symbol.
