The Natural is the New Normal competition, run by Experiment Land Stage, arose from a workshop involving the School of Arts and Design (ESAD), the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP) and the University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE-IUL), as part of the Master's Degree in Interior Design.

This was a workshop for experimenting with construction techniques using wood and cork to create a temporary itinerant shelter. With the ideas and models developed, the students participated in the contest 'Natural is the new normal', whose winning project will be built* at the festival Cortiçada Art Fest - EEA Grants Wood Edition, from September 28th to October 1st, besides a trip to Norway to participate in the 10-day workshop with the architect Sami Rintala and his students (from September 11th to 24th in Bodø).

The jury (Sami Rintala, Camilo Rebelo and Marta Aguiar) has selected 3 finalist projects and the winner will be selected through an online public vote from 28 to 29 August.

Catavento, by Ana Raquel Silva, Ana Sofia Moinhos, Beatrice Zambelli, Luís Silva, Mariana Costa Pinto and Mariana Taveira, and Concertina, by Ana Sofia Cruz, Bárbara Raquel Coelho, Beatriz Cardoso Vieigas, Bruna Liliana da Silva Ferreira, Jinyang Song and Marta José Silva, are two of the three finalist projects.

Experiment Land Stage aims to bring together students, architects, citizens, technicians, entrepreneurs and politicians to create and test new solutions to use natural resources, to build and design objects and spaces, increasing the quality of life of the Portuguese and Norwegian communities.
