This book is the result of Cristina Duarte PhD thesis. She treats fashion as a social phenomenon: *This paper aims to analyze the sociological phenomenon of fashion — to identify the values, the representations of oneself and the socialization, as well as the rupture and/or continuity expressed by the ways of dressing, and the inherent power of certain items of clothing, which may also mean oppression, embarrassment, or insecurity. In this approach, the Portuguese society is portrayed by the voice of 23 women".
Cristina Duarte published previously Ana Salazar – Uma Biografia Ilustrada (Temas e Debates, 2002), 15 Histórias de Hábitos – Criadores de Moda em Portugal (Quimera, 2003), Moda (Quimera, 2004), Moda Portuguesa (CTT, 2005), Trajes Regionais – Gosto Popular, Cores e Formas (CTT, 2006), and José António Tenente - Traços de União (Medialivros, 2009).
