David Catalán, ESAD Fashion Design ex-student, comes back to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, after winning last year’s Prize Talent on the competition Samsung EGO promoted within the event.
The prestigious international award has been given to the Spring/Summer collection 2015 Coverless that explores a casual look with overlapping of textiles and oversized forms, following a strong inspiration on clothes used by homeless people.
Invited as Designer Samsung EGO, David Catalán presents his collection NO SIGNAL on 11th February, at 18h**, at the pavilion 14 of IFEMA. With a strong connection to the media and technology and also to the noise that run from their process and evolution, the collection presents apparently clean cuts, with imprecise and irregular folds and deformed, large and overlapping manners. It is used abnormal fusing, with fuzzy textiles, as the engineering plastics that imitate the texture of leather, complemented with denim. The color palette includes several colors of the same range creating a red chronology as a metaphor for the noise that exists, for example, on the television while the signal is coming. There are still the small details printed in 3D.
Among other participations and credits, the path of David Catalán started in Portugal with the participation of his first collection – Print Voltage Spring/Summer 2014 – at Espaço BLOOM, the 33rd edition of Portugal Fashion 2013; and with the prize Melhor Colecção e Melhor Coordenado Feminino on the competition AcrobActic, with the collection New Roots, Autumn/Winter 2013.
