Mária Voth Velasco is one of the partners of the international project Progressive Sustainability in Fashion: Design and Product Development in the Context of Material Culture and the mind behind the brand Turtlehorn. Currently based in the Netherlands, Turtlehorn combines a taste for streetwear and slow fashion. In this sense, circularity practices are developed, through the reinvention of textiles with the upcycling technique. In this way, unisex pieces are created from recycled materials, analysing the impact of production.
Laura Šilinska is the founder and designer of the innovative brand senscommon. Recently relocated to the city of Porto, this brand is based on three fundamental ideas: design for wellbeing, design with purpose and design responsibly. In the process, she explores different concepts: new genres of garments, smart textiles, seasonless and genderless garments that improve the wearer's well-being and extend the longevity of one's wardrobe.
Mária Voth Velasco and Laura Šilinska present a conference as part of the final of the project Progressive Sustainability in Fashion: Design and Product Development in the Context of Material Culture, on 7 October at 15:00 in the ESAD auditorium.
Progressive Sustainability in Fashion aims to explore different possibilities within circular economy strategies in the world of Fashion Design. The projects result from the team work of students from the four schools, grouped in three groups: circular design, extension of the life cycle of the pieces and communication for circularity.
