This is the 6th ID Progress Show that exhibits the design work made by the first year MA Product Design students between 2020 and 2021.

The project work addresses many social, technical and innovative incentives, to design new products for today’s market demands. The MA Product Design course engages real world challenges to educate the next generation of product design-thinkers, through advanced levels of creative discourse and technical abilities to create innovative products with contextual insight and empathy.

This year, students developed projects in various industrial design areas for: a laundry water filter for low-income countries; an urban vehicle for sharing; local manufactured seating for international markets; glamorous resort facilities with a floating habitat, utility park vehicle and an autonomous pontoon. These projects were coordinated by the tutors, together with the valuable support from industry, specialists and guest lecturers.

The exhibition is on display at ESAD lobby and online.

PROJECTS

— P01A Laundry Tool Design
A competition incentive from RB.com and Desall.com inviting product design students to create a tool for collecting and removing the dirt from the water used for hand washing clothes in countries with water scarcity or poor water quality. The design proposals should consider the user within a hostile working scenario, focusing on performance: functionality; sustainability; social and economic impacts.

— P01B Social Mobility
Celebrating industry 4.0 and the next generation of electric smart-vehicles, this project moves away from conventional individual or public forms of transport and towards sharing modes of moving. The vehicles concepts address the necessary issues of moving-on-demand, whilst reducing individual carbon footprints and preparing users for pandemic scenarios, therefore providing more efficient, safer and environmental forms of mobility.

— P02 Fenabel – The heart of seating A competition and collaboration incentive with Fenabel, a company specialising in the production of chairs. The proposals should approach different seating typologies and markets, presenting solid and stylish solutions considering modularity in production (MIP) or in use (MIU), and with attention to comfort and details.

— P03 Hydro Glamping Glamping is where stunning nature meets modern luxury. The objective is to design the next generation of luxury retreat, based on the Glamping concept for adult couples. Hydro Glamping takes this concept one step further by introducing a sustainable habitat, an electric utility transport vehicle (EUTV) and an autonomous pontoon.
