The project Layers - Footwear for the Circular Economy, a student from the Master’s in Product Design, was nominated for a Green Concept award, from GREEN PRODUCT AWARDS 2021 contest.
Layers, was a project developed by Diogo as part of his Master’s thesis, supervised by Professor Dirk Loyens. These sneakers have modular components and consider ‘circular-economy’ issues. These characteristics extend the ’shelf-life' of the product by updating, reusing and recycling its components to create new products. Layers sneakers also incorporate consumer choice, through the adaptability and customisation of materials, shapes, colours and finishes, thus making it renewable and innovative in the market.
Under the motto Design, Sustainability and Cooperation, the competition GREEN PRODUCT AWARDS, distinguishes, since 2013, sustainable and innovative products and services that are already on the market and offers participants a platform for networking, a total of about 4 million contacts online and over 100,000 in trade fairs.
