Izabel Monnerat and Gabriel Bandeira, finalists in the Fashion Design Degree 2022/23, presented their collections TROPIDERM and In [A] Wolfskin, respectively, at the 61st edition of ModaLisboa, as part of the Sangue Novo supported by Seaside competition. Gabriel is one of the five finalists in the competition.

TROPIDERM, by Izabel Monnerat, carries the narrative of a tropical society deeply impacted by globalisation and the mass media. This project explores how the excess of information and the gentrification of an ethnographic culture have triggered the plasticisation of this society, causing the dilution and homogenisation of local cultures. This break with tradition is particularly pronounced in tropical societies, where society has been altered by the overwhelming influx of external influences. As this exploration deepens, the power of water and its strong connection to tropical daily life, economically and traditionally, becomes clear."

In [A] Wolfskin, by Gabriel Bandeira, "it starts from the duality applied in the archetype of the antagonists observed in the media in general, the characters who are seen as villains (…). This is a reflection of real life, each person represents a unique universe of personalised contexts, which is never revealed in its full complexity. (…) the materials were distorted to promote a handmade and rustic look. Working exclusively with natural fibres and very heavy denim was important in the collection's development process, as was the colour palette, which reflects a dark and macabre atmosphere."

The competition Sangue Novo supported by Seaside aims to publicise the vision of the new generation of Fashion Design for the present and the future and to raise awareness of the sector's identity and social issues. Ten projects have been selected, materialised with the support of ModaLisboa's textile partnerships (Calvelex/Fabrics4Fashion, RDD Textiles and Riopele), using manufacturing processes with a lower environmental impact.

The selected projects were presented on 6 October at 5pm at Pátio da Galé (Lisbon), the day on which the five finalists were announced to compete in March 2024 for the IED - Istituto Europeo di Design and RDD Textiles awards.
