The project Pedra Sobre Pedra, designed by students Hugo Cardoso and Joana Moreira with the professor João Cruz within the project Aldeias do Xisto, was selected to be present at MUDE Fora de Portas, within the Lisbon Ibero-American Capital of Culture 2017, which runs from April 22 to July 2. The inauguration is on April 22, at 6:00 p.m., at the Palácio dos Condes da Calheta, in Belém. MUDE Fora de Portas is an initiative of MUDE - Museum of Fashion and Design.
The trilogy begun with the ÁGUA MUSA and L4CRAFT projects, anchored in the alliance between craft, design and identity, is now complemented with the PORTUGUESE AGRICULTURE project - a reflection on the reality of the Schist Villages and the Portuguese culture, steeped into the values of the territory and the Portuguese spirit.
Reinventing the culture of the places and promoting personal and collective well-being in the territory is a strategy that began with the communication and creation of some new meaningful, more attractive and contemporary products. The craftsmen who accompanied us during these projects revealed here once more their creativity and workmanship.
Education has an important role in change. Restructuring the social fabric of the villages through new players is an invitation to young designers to discover this “rural paradise” and establish new relationships with this reality. The design colleges visited the villages and cultivated links with the people, expressed through the artifacts that they created. The completed projects are proof that this may well be a way to start again: To keep nurturing our own culture.
Nine art & design schools and 22 craft workshops were invited to reinvent the culture of the Places. By bringing together their knowledge and skills and the reality of the villages they produced meaningful items that represent Portugal in this project.
ESAD is one of them, with the students Hugo Cardoso and Joana Moreira and the teacher João Cruz, under Product Design and Interior Design Degrees.
