Ecotrophelia 2021

Susana Barbosa, final year student of the Degree in Communication Design, integrates the shortlist of 10 finalist teams selected by the national committee of Prémio ECOTROPHELIA Portugal 2021. This selection aims to determine the winning team that will represent Portugal in Ecotrophelia Europe 2021.

The project of design of packaging and identity system of the product BEANICE (chickpea and aquafaba ice cream, with two options of flavour, Porta-da-Loja Apple and Algarve Orange), developed in the scope of the curricular unit of Packaging, results from the institutional partnership between ESAD and the School of Biotechnology of the Portuguese Catholic University.

The competition, which takes place on June 29 at the Casa do Vinho Verde in Porto, aims to promote innovation, entrepreneurship and competitiveness in the agri-food sector at a national and European level, bringing together and challenging students, teachers, researchers and professionals in the sector to reflect on the eco-innovative products of the future. This goal is translated into the organisation of national and European food eco-innovation competitions, which include the ECOTROPHELIA Portugal 2021' Award, promoted by PortugalFoods.

Assuming itself as a natural innovation laboratory for academia, it provides access to a wide range of talents and eco-innovative food products, in order to create a training network of excellence in food eco-innovation.

In addition to the finalist project developed by Susana Barbosa's team, another 4 projects developed by Ilídio Menezes, Inês Oliveira and Maria Brito, also students from the Degree in Communication Design, took part in this academic competition.

The jury for the ECOTROPHELIA Portugal 2021 Award is made up of figures representing the agro-food sector and experts in food innovation, selected for their notoriety, independence and competence.
