DUETS is born from the meeting between designers and internationally prestigious personalities, to whom join companies from Paredes.

With curatorship of José Bártolo, president of the scientific committee of ESAD and investigation director of ESAD IDEA, the exhibition integrates duets in which the designer reflects the identity and the material culture of the invited personality through a chair projected at his imagine. This dialogue, where the design is simultaneously an interpretative language and a constructive tool, will materialize in the heart of the furniture industry of Paredes, which conjugates traditional know-how with technical mastery.

In the 2015 edition, the renowned designers Paulo Parra, Toni Grilo, Pedro Sottomayor, José Viana, Raul Cunca, Shao Fan and Eduardo Benamor Duarte design chairs for personalities, such as Durão Barroso, Lula da Silva, Diego Maradona, Jenson Button, Chico Buarque, Ah Cheng and Paulo Coelho.

The presentation exhibition of DUETS second edition, an initiative of Paredes City Council within the project Art on Chairs, is produced by ESAD, with exhibition design by João Cruz and graphic design by Ana Raposo, and will take place at Casa da Cultura de Paredes on *0th January, at 18h.

The opening moment counts on presence of the President of the National Assembly, Assunção Esteves, of the Mayor of Paredes, Celso Ferreira, of the Director of ESAD, José Simões, and of the Curator, José Bártolo.

In the first edition of DUETS global personalities have participated, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, José Mourinho, Manoel de Oliveira, Luciano Benetton, Cavaco Silva, Maria Bethânia and Eduardo Souto de Moura, as well as the designers Paolo Deganello, Alessandro Menini and Paolo Rizatto. The auction took place in November 2012, in Lisbon, and has made more than 111 million euros to UNHCR – The UN Refugee Agency, allocated to finance educative actions.
